Meet Mattie & Mary Q&A
Question: I'm very interested to hear a little more about Garnish
Answer: The whole of the West Cork peninsula is a micro climate; the Gulf Stream from the Atlantic hits this area directly and this is why you have the likes of Garnish Island. There is a huge variety of flora and even different types of palm trees and bamboos. Beside Garnish is a place called Bamboo Park.
Question: The last scene of the film shows yourself and Mary on Dursey Island.
Answer: Dursey Island is very different than Garnish and this illustrates the contrasts in the area. It is mainly pasture. The island has a total population of twelve people. These would be families who would have lived here for generations and would be involved in sheep farming. Dursey has the only cable car in Ireland and it's a good place for it because the water below is fairly notorious for its currents.
Question: Finally, your favourite aspect of West Cork apart from Bantry of course?
Answer: I love the whole area of West Cork: the mountains, the islands, and especially the food.
